IEE’s : NYC DOE Information for Parents Seeking Neuropsychological Evaluations
Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)
An IEE is an assessment by a qualified professional not employed by the school district. If you disagree with the school's evaluation, you can request an IEE, which may be funded by the school district through vouchers like AA2 or AA8.
AA2 and AA8 Vouchers
These vouchers cover the cost of neuropsychological evaluations by authorized providers. AA2 vouchers are issued for IEE requests, while AA8 vouchers cover private evaluations.
Preschool Evaluations
Comprehensive assessments determine if a child has a disability and requires special education services, essential for creating an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Initial Evaluation
The DOE evaluates all aspects of the suspected disability, including social history, psychoeducational assessment, observation, physical examination, and additional assessments as needed.
Independent Assessments Paid for by the DOE
If you disagree with the DOE's evaluation, you can request an independent assessment funded by the DOE by submitting a written request to the IEP team, CSE, or CPSE.
Options for Pursuing a Neuropsychological Evaluation:
IEE: Request an IEE from the DOE if you disagree with the school's evaluation. The DOE may issue a voucher and provide a list of authorized providers.
Due Process Complaint and Impartial Hearing: Request a DOE-funded evaluation through a due process complaint.
Resolution Agreements: Some families reach agreements with the school district for evaluations.
Direct Requests
Parents can request evaluations directly from school social workers or psychologists.
Interview Providers
Parents are encouraged to interview providers on the DOE’s list and ensure comprehensive evaluations.
AA2 and AA8 Vouchers
These vouchers are essential tools for families seeking independent evaluations.
