ADHD medications can significantly affect attention, impulse control, activity level, emotional regulation, and other behaviors that BCBAs observe during assessment and treatment. Although behavior analysts do not prescribe medication, understanding how commonly used ADHD medications may influence behavior can help clinicians interpret changes more accurately and collaborate effectively with families and healthcare professionals.
This brief training examines ADHD medication from behavioral and neuropsychological perspectives. Participants will explore how medication-related changes may appear in everyday behavior and performance, how those changes can interact with behavioral data, and why careful observation is important when evaluating treatment response.
The webinar also addresses how BCBAs can distinguish possible medication-related changes from environmental or intervention-related variables without making medical conclusions. Emphasis is placed on objective observation, documentation, data review, interdisciplinary communication, and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
This course is designed for behavior analysts working with children, adolescents, or adults with ADHD, including individuals with co-occurring ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
